End of year photography review - 2013

Published on Thu Jan 2, 2014 by

Another busy year here at DJC Design, done quite a bit of travelling, won some fab new clients and had a heap of work published. Obviously I'm not going to list everything, just my own personal favourite images and some links for those who want to find out a little more. Already looking forward to 2014 though, got an exciting personal project on the go, a return trip to Madrid planned and quite a few commercial photoshoots booked in. But of course, I'm always searching for interesting collaborations and new challenges, so if you have something in mind, give me a call and we can hook up over coffee and discuss.

Probably the most technically challenging commission this year was a series of shoots for a specialist engineering firm, Chargepoint. They required high quality images of their large scale stainless steel products, which entailed building light tents around the items instu in their Merseyside factory.

Another great commission was from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust who asked me to cover an amazing and inspirational event in Manchester at the start of the year. Which included guest speaker; holocaust surviviour Jack Aizenberg.

Of course loads of other events covered. Including a Liverpool festival that I've covered for a number of years, Writing on the Wall.

And a load of photography events for the School of Management at the University of Liverpool. Including their high profile official launch at Camp and Furnace with Micheal Heseltine.

Covered loads of endurance and Tough Mudder events in 2013 again. Some here in the UK and others further afield in Europe. Photographing marathons is completely different from most of my other work, but great fun and as ever, good to hook up with a solid professional team of photographers from around the world. Just a few examples from the thousands of images taken !

Of course people portraits is another area that has kept me busy - various clients from the commercial world, through to private commisions of lifestyle photography.

I love shooting live music and fav gigs were the Wu-Tang Clan in Manchester and of course the always brilliant Africa Oye festival just down the road in Sefton Park, here in Liverpool.

Another busy year with press and protest photography. I was asked to make a presentation at Liverpool John Moores University about my experiences to a group of Criminology students in the spring term which was a great challenge. Also I became a member of the National Union of Jourmalists (NUJ). Too many publications to mention - large coverage at the start of year in many nationals with my Bedroom Tax images and still being published images of the Silk Road web site takedown notice. A few of my favourites below.

"I have employed David many times over the years, principally as a music conference and high profile event photographer. He is always easy to work with, has a strong sense of what style is needed for each project and brings back results on deadline. He is skilled, experienced and understands visual language and lighting. Additionally, David often helps secure additional PR and media coverage."
