Student occupation of University of Liverpool

Published on Tue Dec 17, 2013 by

I covered recent industrial action by trade unions Unison, UCU and Unite. The unions balloted staff after the employers offered a pay rise of just 0.7%, which would leave staff with a 15% pay cut in real terms over the past four years. I toured the picket lines and then heard that the students were planning some direct action in solidarity with those on strike.

It came after the rally in the form or a student occupation at University of Liverpool. Students and staff occupied the Irish Studies Department building in support of staff strike action and as a peaceful protest against fees and the privatisation of higher education. This is part of a wave of unified direct action and is in line with recent occupations at various universities across the country. Liverpool, England, UK. Tuesday 3rd December 2013. Quite a bit of interest from the nationals, unfortunately events at University of London got editors attention. One usage in Solidarity paper. Please get in touch if you want to licence / use.

"If you are looking for a creative and reliable event photographer, David is your guy. I commissioned him to travel to London to cover a business event where we were exhibiting and to also capture some staff portraits of the exec management team. His fees were competitive and his attitude totally positive & fun. David is an excellent photographic supplier. I highly recommend his services."
